This lesson plan from the Florida Department of Education and adapted from the South Dakota Teachers as Advisors Program walks high school students through identifying and creating short- and long-term goals and developing a career and education plan.

As a child, you probably spent a fair amount of time playing hangman, figuring out puzzle books, solving word searches and completing crosswords. Today, children spend hours in front of the TV, on their phone or playing computer games, but word puzzles can be used to great advantage to help your child’s learning.

Students practicing word problems will begin to develop an understanding of how to pull apart a problem and separate it into important sections. This will then give them the opportunity to solve each section with the appropriate math concept.

These place value worksheets are great for testing children on writing numbers in the billions in expanded form. You may select 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12 digit numbers to use and when the children have mastered those individually, select the ”Random Number of Digits” to generate a worksheet with a mixture of different types of problems. These place value worksheets are appropriate for 3rd Grade, 4th Grade and 5th Grade.

In any group of young children asked to do a paper-pencil task, some will succeed and some will be less successful. The successful children may truly comprehend the task or may simply have guessed correctly. The less successful ones often learn to think of themselves as failures, and ultimately may give up on school and on themselves. These children may react to the stress created by fear of giving the wrong answers by acting out their frustrations and becoming behavior problems, or by withdrawing and becoming reclusive. Parents may report school phobic behaviors such as stomach aches in the morning or refusal to get into the car to go to preschool. These children have learned, at an early age, that school can be an emotionally painful place.

Note: Remind your child that not all 2-digit addition and subtraction problems require regrouping. e.g. 23 + 44 or 87 – 26. Set up a variety of addition and subtraction questions using this worksheet generator.
